Don’t let social media or things you see in society rush you into a false sense of happiness. Just because one person is happy, doesn’t mean you will be happy in the same way. I personally like staying in my bubble and disconnecting from society from time to time. It grounds me and reminds me who I am. I think that so many things that are considered a societal norm, people try to live by. Live your own life, in your own way because you choose to and not because society tells you.

#HashtagEverything
Have you ever taken a moment to go through people’s social media and see the hashtags they have posted under pics? It will take you on an adventure that your clearly aren’t ready for. You can search anything via hashtags and are able to see the number of things that people are using hashtags for. Sometimes the hashtags don’t relate to the topic but it’s just interesting to see. Whenever I am traveling or going somewhere I don’t look up the place I search the hashtag. This allows me to search for parties, restaurants and different events going on in that area. You would be surprised to know that people hashtag everything.
I know a major marketing tool for some industries is to use hashtags and when events happen tell everyone to post pics using hashtags. I went to my friends baby shower this past weekend and they asked everyone to use a specific hashtag. They had a monitor that showed the pics people posted with the hashtag. Technology has come a long way and it’s great that we can tie in different situations/experiences with a hashtag for further viewing. Sometimes instead of going through my social media timeline I go through hashtags that are posted by people to see how they view the world.
As technology continues to evolve the method for accessing things will change with it. Are you ready to grow with it? Create your own hashtag for life and live it. You never know what you might see and who might see it but get up and hashtag everything.

Dear Black Queens
Dear Black Queens,
Its not that we don’t love you, society just doesn’t know how to love you. Society can say what they want about you but we know the truth. The truth is you are undervalued, underestimated and unappreciated in a world that barely understands your greatness. Only used for your physical attributes of rump shaking and sexual pleasures. Society not really exploring the Queens intellect that educates supports and loves those that want nothing to do with her.
To my Black Queens, that support my drive and ambitions as a black man, I want to say thank you. You may not hear it enough from me but I love you. We may have our ups and downs but I still appreciate you in my life.
To my Black Queens, I want to say thank you. You may not hear it enough but WE love you. Even when society hates us and throws us under the bus, you still are around. Loving us, supporting us and providing us with the necessary energy to keep us moving forward. That love is forever appreciated and much needed.
To my Black Queens who are educated, driven, outspoken, supportive, classy and all around beautiful I want to say thank you. Thank you for not letting society define who you are. You are what the world needs so keep being the beautiful Queens you are.
Respectfully,
Kevin Pierre
Dear Black Men
Dear Black Men,
They say we will never be an important part of society, constantly degrading us and our value. I understand that they fear us and our greatness but you can’t stop us. As long as we stick together and try to do better than we will be better. They are afraid of our uniqueness and the change that we can bring to society. We are all not perfect but without the flaws we have that would never make us different.
I am constantly afraid of the world we live in because of how we are depicted. Dead beat dads, violent hoodlums, uneducated niggas, heartless nobodies and jobless losers is what they consider us. They are stuck in the same mindset from the 1950s and not really getting to know us. We are all different and contribute to society.
My name is Kevin Pierre, I am Haitian American. I have a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering Technologies and a Masters in Information Systems. I have a career and I am a co-founder of a non-profit, which focuses on community service and helping to build our youth. My parents have been together for almost 30 years and I have 2 siblings. I am not a statistic, my household is not a statistic and we would not want to be considered one.
To my black men, I wake up every day thankful for another day of life. The way that society and media portrays us always hurts me inside. I always feel I have to tell people around me how much I appreciate/love them in my life because I may be the next one that shows up in a news story. We could say, that might not happen to us but it has happened to everyday regular people.
To my black men, keep your head up and keep pushing to be better. Society can’t hold us back forever. They can discourage us, talk about us and hurt us but they can’t bring down who we are. The moment we let them is the moment we accept what society has labeled us. I refuse to be a label, I refuse to be defined by society and I refuse to be anyone else besides myself.
To my black men we are different, unique, versatile, powerful and ambitious. Don’t let anyone destroy your drive because of your skin color. Kill them with kindness, make them fear you and show them what you are truly made of.
Respectfully,
Kevin Pierre
